Algiers – Algiers is hosting, on January 30 and 31, a specialized exhibition dedicated to international brands operating in the textile and apparel industry, under the title “International Brands Exhibition Made in DZ”, organized under the supervision and patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, according to a statement issued by the ministry this Saturday.
This economic event aims to showcase products of international brands that are manufactured locally in Algeria and marketed both on the domestic market and abroad, reflecting the growing production capabilities of the national industry.
The organization of this exhibition falls within the government’s policy to attract and localize global brands in Algeria. The event features the participation of a significant number of international and national brands active in the textile and clothing sectors.
The exhibition also serves as a professional platform for exchanging expertise and experiences in manufacturing for global brands, while promoting export opportunities for these products to foreign markets, particularly African markets, under the label “Made in Algeria.”
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Mr. Kamel Rezig, emphasized the growing importance of the recent entry of global brands investing in the textile and apparel sector in Algeria, considering it a direct outcome of the reforms initiated by public authorities over the past several years.
In a press statement delivered on Friday evening during the opening of the exhibition, the minister explained that Algeria has begun to reap the benefits of government reforms launched in 2020 under the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which enabled the country to attract dozens of international brands to manufacture locally.
He added that a large number of locally manufactured products under global brands rely on Algerian raw materials, national expertise, and innovative ideas, with a significant portion currently exported to European and American markets. He stressed that these results clearly demonstrate the major progress achieved by Algerian industry, particularly in the textile sector, thanks to coordination among various sectors.
Mr. Rezig also noted that these achievements are expected to attract additional international brands and manufacturers in the future, especially given the favorable investment climate and encouraging conditions in Algeria.
Visitors were also surprised to discover that brands such as Zara, Okaïdi, Parfois, Joma, Skechers, and others are actually manufactured in Algeria and exported to more than 100 countries worldwide.
Key Highlights:
27 international brands participated in the exhibition, with locally produced items priced up to 50% lower than imported products.
The Tayal factory in Relizane has become a major production hub for global brands, with an annual production capacity of 700,000 meters of fabric.
The Algerian Skechers project is set to launch in 2027, with an initial capacity of 300,000 pairs of shoes, expandable to 2 million pairs annually, creating 1,500 jobs.
Brands such as Okaïdi and Parfois are produced locally and exported to over 100 countries, at prices less than half those of imported products.
The public Getex Group has a production capacity of 30 million meters of fabric and 50 million meters of leather annually, making it a cornerstone of the national industry.
It should be recalled that this two-day exhibition is part of the state’s policy aimed at reducing imports by localizing international brands within the country. A wide range of locally manufactured textile products, clothing, and footwear for all age groups were displayed, meeting international standards with high quality and competitive prices.
The organization of this event also reflects the implementation of the national strategy to strengthen and develop local production, meet domestic market needs, and promote exports to foreign markets, particularly African countries.
